About STATTMANN

Where we come from

It all started from the passion for wood of the two founders, the siblings Nicola and Oliver Stattmann, their coming from a family of craftsmen and an appreciation of good design.

We asked ourselves how massive wood furniture could be truly contemporary and sustainable today – from design and construction through to manufacture and shipping. The answer for us was furniture with a clear design language and clever details, unpretentious and functional, manufactured with high-quality craftsmanship and precision, and marked by a responsible use of ecological materials. Practical, long-lasting pieces that can be used in multiple situations and will become life-long companions.

This led us to launching the furniture label STATTMANN in 2012. In close collaboration with international product designers we develop tables, chairs, benches, stools, and shelves with ingenious plug-in connections and technically sophisticated details. Our puristic massive wood furniture is available in a wide range of beautiful colours; the surfaces are treated in way to make the natural grain of the wood visible and tangible. All products are suitable for use in private as well as public spaces.

Our furniture is manufactured entirely in Germany, the wood being sourced from sustainably managed European forests. For the first ten years, a large part of the production was done in the family workshop founded by our great-grandfather in 1896. In 2022, we transferred manufacturing to another family-led workshop, located in southern Germany, which specializes in the serial production of high-end massive wood furniture. When partnering with other workshops or suppliers of components, we always take great care to assure high quality standards.

Manufacturing in technically well-equipped workshops allows us to realise custom colours for any product as well as special measurements for tables, benches or shelves. This is a big advantage when working on projects with architects, interior architects or project planners.

Our Values

A clean, functional design language, high-quality craftsmanship, and a well thought-through use of the natural resource wood – that is what makes for the special quality of our furniture. Honesty, durability, and ecology number among the key values of STATTMANN.

Wood

Wood is a fantastic material. Every tree is individual in its growth, structure, and colour. Wood is pleasant to the touch, has an organic structure and ages beautifully. It is also renewable, ecological and durable. We only work with selected oak and ash wood from certified sustainable forestry – top-quality material which deserves to be handled with respect. In our furniture we want to bring out the beauty of this wonderful material to the fullest extent. That is why the highest level of craftsmanship goes into the manufacturing of the sophisticated details of construction and design as well as the surfaces of all STATTMANN pieces.

Design

The designers who work for STATTMANN—Marina Bautier, Sylvain Willenz, Steffen Kehrle, and Jörg Boner—share our passion for wood. Together we try to rethink traditional woodworking techniques and work out new, clever solutions such as innovative plug-in joints made of wood. The result are surprising details, which are often hidden to the eye.

The design process aims at the creation of straightforward, archetypical furniture that is functional, can be used in a variety of situations, and stays with you for a long time. The resulting piece should be a practical, loyal companion.

Craft

The Stattmann family workshop was established in 1896 and the family has been in the business of furniture and interior construction ever since. Professional knowledge and experience are passed on from generation to generation. The cabinetmakers in the family workshop are still proficient in traditional techniques like marquetry and hand-crafted solid wood joints. This know-how forms the basis for the development of innovative constructive solutions, and it is the meticulous craftsmanship across the whole manufacturing process which makes for the special quality of our furniture.

Ecology

We place great importance on sustainable, regional manufacturing, short transport distances as well as high-quality, ecological materials. We exclusively use wood from certified sustainable forestry as well as environmentally friendly pigments and coatings for the finishing of the surfaces. We also avoid any metal or plastic components wherever possible.

We create products for people who care about where their furniture comes from and under what conditions it is manufactured.
